Spirituality

Our life in Christ and our shared life in community are at the heart of who we are at Holy Child and St. Martin.  The core of our spiritual life is our worship and liturgy. The word “liturgy” literally means the work of the people, and week by week we gather to give thanks and praise to God, through scripture, song, readings, a message, and most of all through the breaking of the bread and the prayers.  Through the Holy Eucharist, we are united more closely with Christ and each other, and are empowered to share the Good News of God’s love with the world. We follow the seasons of the church year, which help us to recall and celebrate the Great Story in all its richness, and both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament are central to our worship.

Christian formation is also central to our spiritual life.  Besides Bible Study, confirmation preparation, and times of retreat and quiet, here at Holy Child and St. Martin, all of our shared life is included in the formation journey.  So whether we are at Sunday liturgy, or serving together on a committee, bringing meals to the homeless, or enjoying fun and fellowship at a movie night, our faith and sense of connection to each other is being nurtured and strengthened. We are part of the Body of Christ, and he supplies us with new and abundant life.
