Temporalities

In order to support our ministries of spiritual life, community, outreach, and service, we need to be able to take care of the practical day-to-day matters that come up in our common life together.  These are ministries of administration, finance, and buildings and grounds.  In order to carry out our mission to share the Good News, we need to have folks who are dedicated to being stewards of our finances, our buildings, and our organizational processes.

In the area of administration, we are grateful to have talented managers in Fr. Jureck Fernandez and in our parish administrator, Lois Downs.  They tirelessly work to make sure we have all the supplies we need to conduct worship and keep the sanctuary accessible.  Jureck and his wife Eda are always on hand to make sure our worship environment is beautiful and inviting.  Besides providing spiritual leadership, Fr. Jureck has lots of practical experience in keeping our physical plant running and thriving.  Lois Downs, our parish administrator, is a gifted organizer who leads the Altar Guild, prepares all the bulletins, supervises the counters, and does everything from ordering altar supplies to helping with the food distribution on Sundays.

Wise management of finances is key for us at HCSM.  We are fortunate to have Ms. Elizabeth Cudiamat as our long time treasurer, and she manages our finances with care and grace.  Sherrie Rubi, our Senior Warden, has helped us manage our investments in ways that will benefit our future ministry.  The Rev. Rebecca Goldberg has been able to secure grants for various ministries, and assisted Fr. Jureck with the Payroll Protection loan process.

Finally, under the direction of Fr. Jureck and Mr. Bernard Dayrit, the buildings and grounds are maintained and cared for, so our church can continue to serve as a place of worship and community gathering and support.  Many days you will find Bernard and his colleagues here, repairing leaks, cleaning up the grounds, clearing out storage areas.  They serve with love and dedication.

The separation of sacred from secular is largely superficial, and in managing these temporalities, we are responding to God’s call to build the church and share the Gospel.  We give thanks for all who serve in these important ministries!
